Abstract

The article critically analyses the most popular approaches to the history of analytic philosophy (doctrinal, methodological, genealogical, thematic, etc.). Each of these approaches has its own shortcomings and, as a consequence, does not provide a satisfactory answer to the question «What is analytic philosophy?». As an alternative, it proposes a quantitative approach that allows the construction and study of co-citation models of objects of the so-called documentary universe. In the optics of this approach, analytic philosophy is an example of a normal science with a soft paradigm that defines the structure of analytic philosophy not at the level of its doctrine or method, but at the level of the organization its research practices. Such a structural property of the analytic philosophy, as an object of the documentary universe, can provide a clear and unambiguous demarcation criterion separating it from all other philosophical traditions.
